Site Managers .. PLEASE .. Tear Up Old Tickets

Site Managers, we have had a few people in the last few weeks try to cash tote tickets that were already paid out.  They would dig the old tickets out of the garbage and if, by chance, the cash ticket wasn’t branded “Cashed”, they would take it to another simulcast site and try to cash it.  This is the importance of always running your vouchers and winning tickets through the tote terminal before cashing them for someone.  Please destroy all tickets from the tote machines and self-service machines.

Thanks.

Attention Site Managers - Fantasy Sports Update

Montana Simulcast Partners had a directors meeting on Wednesday, June 25th in Great Falls.  One of the items on the agenda was an update on the status of the Fantasy Sports Legislation.  Al Carruthers, Ryan Sherman and Sherry Meador were there from the Montana Board of Horse Racing.

As many of you know, we originally hoped to do the Fantasy Sports thru the current pari-mutuel system that we use for simulcasting.  The Montana Board of Horse Racing decided to have the Montana Lottery put the games together and offer the Fantasy Sports thru their equipment.  The current Fantasy Sports rules are being noticed to the public for general comment.

If your site wants to offer Fantasy Sports, you need to contact the Montana Lottery.  Al Carruthers told us at the meeting that they currently have 50-55 locations signed up.  The Fantasy Sports games will be offered along with other lottery games.  In order to sign up for the "Montana Sports Action" games, you must be a licensed gaming establishment.  Also, there is a limited number of machines available and they are signing people up on a first come basis.

If you want more information, call 1-800-433-8490 or log on to www.montanasportsaction.com.

Thank you for your continued support of simulcasting and live horse racing in Montana.

Attention Site Managers

July Calendars are available

The July Calendars are not available.  In your "PDF Distribution Software", go to "Sys Options", then select the "MSP Web Site" link.  On the left side of the screen, go to "Simulcast Calendar" and print July 2008.

Reminder # 2 - Cash all Outstanding Tickets

By state law, Montana Simulcast Partners will age the "Outs" tickets on July 1st, 2008.  All tickets purchased before June 1st, 2008 must be cashed before the end of June, 2008.  Tickets that were purchased before June 1st, 2008 will no longer be valid after July 1st, 2008.

Reminder # 2 - Churchill Downs 5 Days in July

As it stands right now, it looks like MSP will NOT take the Churchill Downs signal the 5 days in July.  They want to charge MSP $2,700 for the decoders.  We are averaging a daily handle of $3,270 right now.  It would be a net loss of $2,100 for those 5 days.  The July schedule will be published the last week in June.

Arlington Park in July

We want to try and offer as much as we can in the summer months (within our budget).  A few years ago we tried Arlington Park and had so-so success.  Arlington Park is a Churchill Downs, Inc. property and they have raised their rates for decoders and signal fees.  However, they seem to be the best choice for a July track and we will try it.  If the handles are sufficient, we will keep it for August (which they have some great racing in August).

Prairie Meadows conflict with Harness on Friday & Saturday

We realize that our July schedule has a conflict with the harness coming up around 6:00 and Prairie Meadows around 5:00 on Friday & Saturdays.  However, most of the times one of those is also on the TVG or HRTV.  If you have problems and what to remove one of those signals on Friday or Saturday, let us know and we will do that for you.  So far in June, we seem to not have a problem.

Thank you for your continued support of simulcasting and live horse racing in Montana.

2008 Belmont Stakes Day Handles

The 2008 Belmont Stakes Day handle blew away last years Belmont Stake Day handle by almost $62,000.  Race enthusiasts witnessed Big Brown's failed attempt to win the Triple Crown series before a crowd just shy of 100,000 people.  The total handle of $174,482 was 55% above last years handle of $112,617.  Montana racing patrons won over $73,000 from the bettors around the country as many people in Montana did not feel Big Brown was a sure thing to win the 1 Mile & One-Half Belmont Stakes.

The record Belmont Day handle was in 2004 ($202,852) when Smarty Jones competed for the Triple Crown honors.
